    Cage size

Pretty new to ball pythons but my guy is growing fast- what size would you buy for a male ball python? 32"x18"x16" or 36"x18"x24"? Sliding doors or swinging doors? Any experience with the penn plax reptology snake habitat? What about the exo terra tanks? In case you don't know about the reptology tank, I will post a picture. I'm sure all of you know of the famous exo terra tanks.

    Penn plax reptology

Personally I would skip both of the 2 you listed unless you get them cheap. For probably the same price you should check out PVC cages as they are going to hold humidity and heat a lot easier. Check out Animal Plastics, Constrictors NW, Boaphile, Showcase cages, Vision cages to name a few. Also for size, either of those 2 sizes will work as males don't get as big as females. Height though, I wouldn't go 24 inches high as you gotta remember, you will need to heat that cage. Most common heights for BP cages are 12-18 inches. Also PVC cages are going to be lighter, more durable and easier to clean.

As for your answer between the 2 cages, I have experience with neither for the reasons listed above. I use a Pro-Line(Constrictors NW) cage for my red tail boa and will either be picking up an Animal Plastics T8 or T10 or another Pro-Line cage for my bp when she gets older as the 36x18x12 tank I got her in now is big enough and I got it set up perfect for humidity and temps.

The enclosure I have is very similar to the one pictured in the OP, and I like it a lot. The sliding doors make it easy to reach in for changing water, cleaning, etc. The grille on top is solid and has little slots for probe cables. It will require 'customization' but that's part of the fun of being a snake-keeper

Unfortunately the pvc cages are really pricy around here.

Do you find the sliding doors are better than front opening?

    Re: Cage size

This is my first snake and only enclosure experience. Hinged doors would need more room and with my clumsiness I'd probably leave the open door when cleaning and accidentally walk into it or smash something against it.

I'm of the mindset go as big as you can so just bought a upgrade for my BP 48x24x16 after recently buying him a 24x24x12. Just the way a 6 month old 20" 300g baby can take up the space when you add hides, water dish etc. What a good minimum for a full grown BP is I'm not sure, you get a lot of mixed responses on that.

My adult male is in a 3 x 2 boaphile cage. I don't like glass tanks for snakes, too hard to get temps right and heavy, hard to clean.

Are you in the States or somewhere else? An Animal Plastics T8 PVC enclosure is $200 bucks (including shipping) that can be ordered online through their website. It's fully enclosed with sliding glass doors. Just a thought.
