Quarantined Snake for 3 months, does it have mites? What else to look for at 3 month?
Hello. I am new to this forum.
I recently bought a hatchling piebald ball python (I am pretty sure, with how small she was, that she was barely out of the egg). I have had her for 3 months now and quarantined her away from my 10 year old wild-type ball python (I have had her since she was a hatchling/juvenile as well).
I only worry because I am absolutely paranoid since I bought the piebald from a breeder. I don't think she has mites (I have not had any black spots on my skin during holding, I have not seen any black pepper in the water dish, they are not soaking themselves in their water dishes). I feel like that is something that would have already become a massive problem by now, an infestation (seeing them in her water, around the cage, etc.). It has been 3 months. Does anyone know the gestation period (so to speak) of mites getting on a snake, to the time that a full infestation can occur (like I said, 3 months seems like the amount of time an infestation would occur from the time of contact if a snake had mites)?
I also took her to a really great herp vet after a month because of a slightly bloody tail (shed too early, all is well now). I feel like the vet, after doing a full exam on her, would have noticed something like mites (even in early stages, especially since she is a piebald [mites on white should be obvious]).
My real question is... at 3 months what should I be looking for before I bring her into the other room with my older ball python (who has never had any problems)? I don't want to risk anything happening to my older girl (even though they will be in separate enclosures).
Thank you in advance for any information (on an interesting note, I have noticed that piebalds [at least mine] are much more active than wild-types).

With 3 months and a vet check it should be fine. If it came with mites you would have seen them long ago.

The quarentine period is not just for mites but for other health situation. To make sure that there is not anything nasty that the new snake can pass along to the rest of your collection. Like KMG said 3 month quarentine and a vet visit and you should be fine to include with the rest of the collection. Mites you would have seen earlier and the vet most likley would have picked up on most other problems.

Thank you everyone for your input. It put my mind to rest with bringing the little one into the room with my older girl. Cheers!
