    First Blood

Picked up a 2013 female Blood Python yesterday. This is my first blood so I'm pretty excited as I've wanted one for awhile.

She is taking F/T small rats readily (I never realized how quick their strikes really are, whether feeding or for defense, it's unbelievably fast. I think she is going to be a handful.

Thanks, yeah I didn't really expect her to take it because of the stress of being put into a new environment. She's also going into shed. Even then she still took to food almost immediately.

Looks like you've got yourself a strong feeder.

She looks great. I'm thinking of getting a blood Python for my collection.

I only have two bloods but if mine are anything like the rest out there then feeding is normally not an issue... anything stays in front of the face and moves to much will get hit lol.

They are a very rewarding snake, I love how slow and sluggish they look, catches everyone of guard when they see how fast they can really move when they want to. If you like snakes that have very distinct personalities bloods are great.

Cant compete in sheer size with something like your burm, but I am willing to bet her threats and antics will be right up there LOL

anyway, congrats on the nice pickup I am sure you will love it!

So far she's been doing well. I'm shocked at how placid she is. I guess I had fallen victim to the hype of their reputation. She's not a ball python but she's definitely not an aggressive snake.

I think a lot of the bad hype they get is from how overly defensive some of them act as small juveniles, they see a small snake that is striking so hard it is literally flipping its body over and go "O crap..imagine that at 20+lbs" lol For the most part it seems they hold true like most snakes that the bigger they get the more mellow they get.
