Cannot find local rats
Just posting to rant a little bit. I cannot find rat breeders that can keep up with my feeding schedule. I've gone through two rat breeders in the Charlotte nc area. I have to feed 5 snakes twice a week. I really don't want to buy frozen rats and keep them in my freezer where I keep my food. It's frustrating.

I have a separate small chest freezer for the frozen feeders. It stays in my snake room. An added benefit is the heat exhaust from it helps keep the room toasty when the house is cold.

You could always breed your own, i'm sure there are many ppl in your area who need a reliable breeder and you could offset the costs for your hobby. Its also a shameless plug because i'm planning on moving to that area and might need some too

I really dislike rodents, I don't see myself breeding them. On top of that my wife has the sweetest softest heart and we will end up with 50 pet rats..
That and my house is nowhere near big enough for a rat room..

I found a rat breeder, this past weekend here in columbia s.c. However I found out that they are all covered with some sort of flea. I'am glad I euthanized and froze them before, I started using them. I'am saying this to say be careful of your feeder sources.

Thank you tigerhawk. My two breeders are finally starting to get their rat count up so I should be good. Goddessbaby where in nc are you thinking about moving to?

Yup that's the way to go. My GF would hate for me to put frozen rats with our food.

It's just frozen meat like any other. It's secure in a ziplock bag. I've got a chest freezer in the basement and I have a hard time getting my wife to keep food OUT of my rat freezer. (she likes to hide ice cream in there so that the kids don't find it)

Haha that's funny. Anyway, she just doesn't like the thought of it.
