Re: Goat about to have babies

She is not a happy goat this morning. Although I took this picture when she was laying down, she immediately got up and started pacing. She hasn't laid down for more than a few seconds.

I'm at work now, but keeping an eye on her via camera. Soon as I start seeing good contractions I'm probably going to head home. I have a 30-40 minute window from when she really starts pushing to when I may need to assist if she hasn't progressed in that time. Just wish I had the day off so I could be with her while she goes through this.

Why keep a snake? Why keep any animal? Because you enjoy the animal, find something beautiful and fascinating about it, and it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

I did actually have the tortoises in there temporarily! Lol
We had some really cold, rainy, frosty weather, and I put them in the birthing pen (before the goat was being housed in there) to keep them sheltered. Now that she's about to have babies, and our weather is mild again and the rain cleared up, I put them back in their normal enclosure.

Good eye noticing that. I was waiting for a comment about it. Hehe

Re: Goat about to have babies

Babies fall out of this goat! I saw her going into hard labor, so I left work. Not even a half hour later she popped out not one, but TWO babies! Not surprised she had two, I am surprised they came out so quick!

Both girls, blue eyes, one black and one dark buckskin with a little white spot. Healthy, active, and started nursing immediately.

Very cute. I am so impressed that you left work to help your goat. People around here are not that commited to their pets. Anyways, they are so cute. Are these little ladies going to be family pets?

I wanted to make sure everything was Ok, and if she needed assistance, I would be there. Obviously she didn't, two babies out within less than 20 minutes of hard pushing starting! Lol apparently the line she comes from its know for being easy kidders, which is good.

They'll be pets, maybe milk. That's why we originally got the mom -for milk (and a fun pet). Nigerian dwarf are small enough they are easy to house and handle, but also don't product as much milk as the bigger breeds. We'll probably get the dad neutered so everyone can live together (he's not registered), maybe later I can get a couple registered bucks.
