    New BP Owner problems lol

    Hi everybody !

I got my first ball python (normal) , a few months ago .
When i first got him he was real sweet .

Now he is always hiding , which i have read is normal .
and i can never catch him out of his hides to handle him .

I dont want him to become untamed if that makes any sense ,
so i decided to see if anyone with more experience than me could assist me .

I would really appreciate it .

He don't have to be out of his hide for you to hold him..When you decide you want to hold him simply remove the hide and pick him up

as long as you have 2 hides(warm/cool) and your temp humidity is fine hes fine to hide, just slowly remove the hide and pick him up. im assuming when you said he was real sweet you were implying he was out of his hide often leading you to want to pick him up? maybe he was exploring new surroundings and now hes happy and comfortable he likes to chill at home in his hide and watch snake bites?

Ok great to know I just didnt know if that would stress them out considering they consider their hides a safe haven .

Plus i bought hides that were a little heavy , maybe i should get lighter ones asap .

just do it gradually. 5minutes then 10 etc. look for changes in his behavior to tell if your causing too much stress

Pick the hide up and take him out whenever you want, later in the evening may be better?

Keep the handling session short while your BP is still young and always end them on a positive.

If your BP hisses or strikes at you, do not leave him be.. Take him out handle him then put him back.

Goodluck and I hope you enjoy your new BP!
