worried about growth

Hi all,

I'm not sure what to make of my king. She/he always ravenously struck and had become fairly unhappy. Would musk me or flick the tail whenever I tried to handle her. Then she had this weird double shed. Hard to explain she shed and then shed again (full - eyeball to tail one long piece.) Since then, she is completely docile. I have to leave food in her bin for her to even both to eat. She will now eat two hoppers but that is it. She now weighs 188 grams at a little over a year old. She has grown in length to a little over 2 feet. Perfectly healthy otherwise. i'm not sure what to think. Any in site would be helpful. Thanks.

If your husbandry is up to par and your snake is eating, pooping, and shedding without issues I wouldn't worry. My king's have slowed down quite a bit since the weather got cooler. They weigh 540g and 440g respectively. They normally eat (2) large or (2) jumbo mice per feeding but now they're each only eating (1) large mice per feeding. They normally strike their food pretty aggressively as well but I have had a few more drop feeds lately. Two mice hoppers seem like a pretty small meal for a king that size but it is enough to sustain her. Just monitor her to make sure she's not losing any significant weight. I think it's just that time of year when some snakes slow down on their feedings and some stop eating altogether. Hopefully her appetite will pick back up soon. Best wishes.

I got her to only eat one hopper this week. Her body condition is great. Starting to wonder if she is a king snake. I adopted her.

Pictures? Even my king snake quit eating for about three months last year. He looked perfectly healthy and would move around still, just wasn't as lively, but he was in his slow period. This year he's had about three drop feedings in the past two months and that's it, but he just shed yesterday and was back to his ravenous self!
