Mainly staying on cool side
I have a ball python and he is mainly staying on the cool side of his vivarium and I was wondering if this is normal. The warm side is 88°f and the cool side is 82°f is it normal for him

Re: Mainly staying on cool side
He may favor the hide on the cold side. Move the hide to the warm side and see if he moves over there. If he does, try to get an identical hide on the cold side

Maybe it's too hot inside the hide for him?

Shall I try switching the bulb back to a smaller one but that makes it like 80°

Of you have a temp gun, measure the temp on the inside of his hide. Is he eating?

If you are using a heat bulb pointed over the warm hide and it is giving you an ambient temp of 88 I can pretty much guarantee the hide temp is too warm.
Knowing just how the setup is done(pics) and what type of bulb you are using could really help us tell you more accurately.

Re: Mainly staying on cool side
We switched the bulb to a bigger bulb because of the winter we switched the bulb back a few hours ago to see what happens

So you don't know the surface temps the bulb is creating and are just gonna hope for the best?

Re: Mainly staying on cool side
Before we switched when I had him he was on the lower bulb and that was giving the hot side 75° which before I brought him it said it should be about 85 to 90
