Mystic questions

So I may get the green light on picking up a new ball for Christmas and in anticipation I've been looking at my wish list and on it I have the Mystic. Thing is every one I see looks different from the others. Some seem to have almost no pattern and have a light gray color, others have pronounced dorsal strips (sometimes quite yellow) with only the tops of cheerios on the side, and yet others seem to have a light gray dorsal stripe and only the tops of the cheerios showing then rapid fading. So are these different stages as they mature or is the gene this broad in how it presents? What should I be looking for in a Mystic of high quality? I'm fond of the ones that have some pattern along the dorsal spine but then rapidly fade down the sides towards the belly.
Oh and if anyone has some for sale feel free to post pictures, I'm leaning towards a female.

i think the Mystics you are desrcibing are Super Mystics.

Best way I can describe a mystic especially as a hatchling -----> will have a normal ball python color scheme and the pattern of a mojave. Best thing for you to do though if you can is go for a pastel mystic. There is no mistaking it as a regular pastel. The mystic with the pastel gene is obvious and they are very affordable, especially the males. Plus pastel potions are awesome!

I believe you are correct! Sorry, my bad. I may also be confusing them with Mystic Potion's as well or is that just another name for the same morph (Super Mystic)?

Just found one answer the Super Mystic and Mystic Potion are slightly different, the Mystic Potion is a Mystic bred with a Mojave where the super form is obviously two Mystics bred together.

I'm more interested in the Super Mystic.

Yes, Super Mystic and Mystic Potion are different. The Mystic and Mojave genes occur at the same point on the DNA strand. They are called alleles, and are part of a much larger group of genes known as the Blue Eyed Leucustic complex. This means that when you breed a Super Mystic, every baby will get the Mystic gene, while when you breed a Mystic Potion, every baby will get the Mystic gene or the Mojave gene.

As for the amount of color/pattern on a Mystic Potion or a Super Mystic, that seems to be random. In the picture below, all 4 Mystic Potions are from 2014 clutch 10, while all 3 Super Mystics are from 2014 clutch14. You can see the variability despite all of the Mystic Potions sharing the same two parents and all of the Super Mystics sharing the same two parents.

Perfect! So there is some variation between clutch mates. I was also confusing the Potion with the Super, I think I like the Super better.
