    Temperment of Bloods

So I'm interested in getting a blood python, but I'm wondering the differences between them and ball pythons. My baby, Jake, has a very easy going temperament, a great feeder (until very recently), and he is also the first snake I've really owned. Is the heating and humidity ranges drastically different, and do I need a larger enclosure? Also, are they more finicky and aggressive than ball pythons? I'd like to hear about anyone's experiences with them, and pictures of their babies if you want

Bloods do get big and are very heavy bodied so they need a larger cage than a ball. My big female is almost 6ft and weighs 30lbs. She is in a pvc cage that is 4ft x 2ft x 18in.

They are very vocal and love to huff, puff, and hiss at all times. When my younger three first arrived it took them a few months before they started to trust me and stop striking. That said, they are very laid back once they trust you...usually. All snakes are different and some can have real attitudes. My big girl has never tried to tag me and will hang out with me as long as let her.

They are very impressive and once fully grown has a strength that is incredible. Every once and awhile my big girl will throw a fit and not want to go back home or not want to come out. While she usually moves like a pet rock she surprises me each time with her speed and strength when she gets pissy with me.

Here is a great site that has a ton of information about bloods. Read up and see what you think. Another choice would be to go with a short tail python as they stay smaller but are still very similar to a blood. Kara and Ryan own that site and produce some magnificent animals. Kara is also a member here. Check out the resources section. http://bloodpythons.com/cms/

    Re: Temperment of Bloods

I just recently Purchased a Baby Short tail Borneo and after reading for a year about them nothing can replace my hands on experience, it shocked me at first these guys have alot more strength than my Ball Phython s. So if you do just beware of this. I Can hardly wait for my Friendship to progress with my baby in my opinion they are pretty awsome. And one last thing the folks here were their for me and helped me to better understand Including KMG in the post above. The link above takes you to an amazing website of some beautiful Bloods and Short tails. I wish you luck in your search for that just the right one.

I have a pic for you. These guys have a lovely way of holding their movements until they want to ruin your day. I came home to this a couple months ago. Their movements are larger than my 70lb bulldog.

    ENJOY!!!!!
