    My BP bit me....allergic reaction??

So my BP bit my hand. It was totally my own dumb fault; she's normally sweet and docile.
It was thanksgiving and i had just fed her in her feeding box about half an hour before. Usually i just let her crawl out on her own or gently dump her back into her habitat after feeding, but i was distracted talking to my son and stupidly reached into her feeding box to put her back into her house when bam! She bit my hand!
She let go right away realizing my hand wasn't another rat, but she left about 12 small, bleeding punctures. I immediately cleaned it with peroxide and alcohol and its been healing just fine, until last night, more then a week later. I was woken up by intense itching and every puncture was swollen up and red, like welts.
I don't feel anything, like broken off teeth, under my skin, so it's not that. Maybe it's a delayed allergic reaction? I don't know. Had anyone else ever experienced anything like this? It's kinda tripping me out!! Also, this may be unrelated, but I've had a really bad headache since last night, as well.
    Any feedback is appreciated.
    Thanks (=

Re: My BP bit me....allergic reaction??

    Hi,

After a week I can't see it being any kind of allergic reaction but it is still a wound from a bite just after it had been eating rodents so a slight infection is always a possibility.

If it doesn't settle down again I would think asking a doctor to have a look and see if any anti-bacterials are recommended.

Potentially staff infection. Happens not from snake but other bacteria getting in after the fact. Get some neosporin and soak your hand in warm Epsom salt if worried. I live on a farm and uncovered cuts get pretty infected fast. If you start experience severe inflammation or all your muscles start burning from the inside get attention for it. They will give you some steroids or anti biotics. This has only happened to me once with third degree burns I left untreated. So that's worse case. Don't worry your body is strong. Neosporin and Epsom salt should fix you right up.

Re: My BP bit me....allergic reaction??

Thanks for your responses. I don't think it's staph, however the salt soak followed by antibiotic ointment is a great idea. I will try that tonight before bed and see if it's helped in the morning.
I am also a bit of an obsessive hand washer and lotion user, so maybe it's just irritation from the soap and lotion. It just concerned me because I've never had a hand wound get like this.
Anyway thanks again for the input, it's much appreciated.

I just use Isopropyl alcohol on any open wound. Sometimes you feel a warming sensation but it kills the bacteria...
