    Jasmine the gtp

I just got my first gtp rescue. She is roughly 6 feet long and absolutely puppy dog tame.

She came with close to 30 mites we are treating now and a pretty bad burn scar on her side. I sprayed her down and soaked her as pet my vet and also sterilized the viv and have her on paper towels. I haven't seen andy moving critters since. Hopefully we killed em all.

The scar seems to be yellow colored now as if she is changing back to a neonate color. Will this go back to green?

I can't believe someone let such a beautiful animal be abused that way.

Do you have a pic so we can have a better idea of what you are seeing?

Battling mites is usually a on going fight. Rarely do you get all of them right away, so don't freak if you see them again. Just be persistent. The way your describing the scar sounds like an old wounded that will most likely stay as is. But yeah pics always help.

I will try to get a better one tonight. She is now off the bedding and just on paper towels.

Here is the scar. Overall I think she is beautifully colored. She let me get her out tonight. Not even a hiss. I sprayed her viv with rid and let is air our for an hour and soaked her again. Only found one mite this time. Hopefully she will be well soon.

Also noticed a missing scale on her nose. Or is that normal?

That scar appears to be healing pretty well and that is a good looking gtp. It may turn blue. My gtp was more of a rescue and the owner before me did some poor things and my guy had a bite mark on his head. It was already healed and shed but with every shed it gets a little lighter and it appears to have an end result of the pretty blues that these snakes can produce. This is an older pic of mine to give you an idea of how it looked. You can see that it was almost black but now it is much lighter and the majority of his snout and jaws are now blue with the scar being blue too.

Thanks KMG. Is there any advise you could give me? I'm new to chondros. is it ok to handle her once a week or should I just leave her? I let her out tonight for a while. Here's a pic of when I fist picked her up at the store.

Mine is not very nice at night. He gets into hunt mode and anything that enters the cage becomes a target. He will even track shadows which says alot for their vision. However, during the day he is a perfect gentleman and I can handle him whenever I want except during the blue phase of a shed where he is kinda grumpy. I absolutely love to handle him and he is my favorite to take out. Each snake is different but mine tolerates me well and I can handle him often without any issues.

The only tip I can think of is when you get them off their perch. What I found works best is to spin him over where he is coiled facing the floor. I keep my hand on and under him as I do this and he will simply release into my hand and come out without a fuss. Trying to take them off the perch as they sit seems to make them grip and squeeze the bar and makes it more difficult to remove them without force which can be harmful to their delicate build. Spinning them over doesn't seem to cause this and instead seems to make them want to release to reposition but when they do they are in your hand and wrap it instead.

If you have anything specific let me know but that's all I can think of right now.
