Curious movement

Hey folks. So Typhon is pretty interesting to me. Whenever I handle him, he usually doesn't move much until I start petting his sides, or wait like 30 minutes. so I'll pet him and he reacts to the touch but also starts exploring until I stop lol. Has anyone else had this?

I also don't know how I feel about him smelling me directly lol. That was a little strange feeling

"Starts exploring till you stop" - honestly it sounds like he's trying to move away from you touching him, not exploring. Most snakes don't like to be petted, and will avoid being touched directly, at least until they're used to you much more. The fact that he stops "exploring" when you stop touching him is pretty telling. My snake will move away from me when I pet him too. He likes to climb me when I'm sitting stationary, but the moment I start handling him too much he's out.

I think you're right, yeah. But it helps him relax. He's still young so the first time I pick him up in the day he's jumpy, so I'll 'pet' him to help him relax. It let's them know we're not a threat and seems to work. I can tell by how he reacts to touch and eventually he doesn't react at all and that's usually when he goes climbing.
