My birthday present!

My husband surprised me yesterday with my bday present a little early! Meet Juno, 0.1 Albino. She is so tiny, only 12g! And thin with backbone ridge showing. She has been eating mice hoppies. She struck at me last night while settling her so decided to see if she'd eat. She wanted to, but kept sniffing the mouse and retreating. This morning the mouse is dead for no apparent reason. And yes we have a nice set up for feeder mice and rats awaiting feeding day. She must have known it was sick or something.

I did feel that the mouse was probably on the large side of ok for her. For a confident feeder like my normal it wouldn't have mattered but as she had only fed 3 times it may have put her off. I'm defrosting a little fuzzy now (in her QT room so she smells it) and going to offer later as she has been in feeding mode since last night.

Congratulations. 12 grams is small? How much does a typical hatchling weigh?

I would say typical is 50-70 grams, large 70-90 grams, small 30-50 grams. It is highly unusual for a hatchling to weigh less than 30 grams and survive (is possible and heard of but very very uncommon). If it were 12 grams, a good meal would be a 2.4 gram food item (a newborn mouse pink).
