    Red light at night...

I've read the other topics in here about lighting but I'm still confused. I bought a double light shade today and a red light for night viewing, which I didn't realize has heat too. It is better at heating than the CHE too. So is it ok to leave on all night as heat and night light? Or, do they need their 12 hours of dark instead? I can put a CHE in other socket and turn off red after we finish watching "snake TV", or is it not necessary?
