Why does my ball python suddenly refuse to lay on her heat pad?

Our ball has always enjoyed laying on her under tank heating pad, but now she lays everywhere but there. Recently we changed from coconut substrate to double thickness of cloth towels and paper towels, because the coconut was holding too much moisture and she got belly rot. She is healed but we had to start keeping her tank a little dryer. Now she is avoiding her heating pad. What are we doing wrong?

Maybe she ain't cold. Best you can do is supply proper thermo grades. The snake takes it from there.

It could very well be that it is too hot for her taste without you knowing it

    Verify the temps.

When you changed her substrate, it may be conducting heat differently.
It is okay to use pine bedding for snakes.
It is okay to feed live food to snakes.
