How often do yall weigh your snakes?

My kids were asking and I couldn't answer. I searched here and didn't see a post about it. ( i may have missed or, i apologize if this had been discussed before).

So, in a healthy bp, how frequently do people weigh them?

It honestly depends on the snake. Right now I have a hatchling thats a few months old. I weigh him before every feed. I see changes each time I weigh him.

After about a thousand grams they seem to grow more slowly.

All of this being said, the only real reason I can think of to weigh is if you are uncertain about the amount that you are feeding, or if you are planning to breed and you have snakes that you think are approaching breeding size.

I weigh all of them about once a month and write it in a notebook. I personally do it just to keep track of weight gains and make sure they're all making some progress

    Very very rarely.

I weigh a few females right before being paired (the ones I know I will let go after that season), and after that it's on customer's request.

Depends. I'm not fanatical about weighing my adult keepers for most of the year (I do weigh females over the course of breeding, though, just for the data). I do also weigh growing snakes, especially holdbacks, because I'm curious if growth is something I can select for.

I weigh them after they poop. So, on their schedule, not mine. It's probably impossible to get a completely empty weight on a snake that isn't fasting, but I try to minimize just how much digesting food I'm looking at. That number goes in the snake's personal record, in case it ever comes up later.

Thanks for the comments folks, it's interesting to see how other keepers do things.

Re: How often do yall weigh your snakes?

I try to weigh mine about once a month just to see progress or if they are off feed to see if they have any heath issues if they loose weight. I keep track and write it down every time I weigh them. That way I know.
