Family acceptance never tasted so sweet!
I should probably rephrase that as family tolerance-oh well! Either way Below is a rather long, very joyful post. I'm excited and had to share
So, I (just like everybody else here) have always been such an animal person. I've had dogs, cats, birds, hedgehogs, fish, etc. However, growing up my mom was always SO against reptiles. It was crazy. She always played the salmonella card. I always always always wanted reptiles, but it was never in the cards for me. Graduated high school, lived in a dorm first two years of college, then last year I got an apartment. I always felt like something was missing, so I got a hedgehog. This year, I got new roommates, one who is a huge reptile gal! She has bearded dragons, and she had a friend who breeds balls so I got a baby normal girl practically free. I told my mom, and she just sent a bunch of salmonella articles
Well, you guys know how ball pythons work… you don't have just one for very long! I got a banana boy pretty soon after, and then my little sister (4 years old) came to stay the weekend with me. She was really curious about my snakes, told me they were pretty, and said I should have 6 of them! I did end up getting even more, a BEL, albino spider, and paradox champagne. So I have a total of 5 and didn't tell my parents. But, my little sister did she told my dad I had pretty snakes, so that ended with him calling me and outright asking how many snakes I had. Couldn't lie, so I told him I had 5 snakes. He gave out this hysterical laugh and like, "Why do you need that many snakes?" I told him I didn't technically need them, but… I wanted them? And he got super curious and asked me about them, and asked to see pictures. I can even tell he was researching because he called me the other day and asked if I feed them in the cage, because that might make them aggressive (and even though he was misinformed, it was a sweet gesture). And my mom just said to make sure I wash my hands often (which, of course). My sisters like my snakes, and my boyfriend (who is not a pet person at all) has accepted them on the condition that I don't get any more any time soon. All of my roommates adore them and always ask to see them. Life is good for this girl no more judgement.

Re: Family acceptance never tasted so sweet!
Im so glad! My mom was the same thing, but my dad really didnt mind that much. So one day me and my dad bought a baby corn snake and she didnt know about it. So to her surprise she had to start liking it or she had to move out xD

I know how you feel right now, just enjoy it. I had a similar thing happen just today. My mom thinks I'm crazy to own snake let alone more than one. Today her and I were discussing Thanksgiving weekend, I'm going to be out of town for 5 days. She asked if I had someone to take care of all my animals , 3 snakes and 1 cat. I told her I had my neighbor coming by to check on them. I also told her that it wasn't like I had anybody else to do it. She then told me that she knows how much the snakes mean to me and that she would be willing to take care of them for me if I need her to. I was both surprised and great full that she would look past her fear to make sure my animals were taken care of. I definitely consider it a win.

My mother was the exact same way. When I was growing up, whenever she took us to the pet store, she and my brother would look at the birds, dogs, cats, ect while I would scamper over to the Herp section and ogle the snakes. For the longest time, she would come and drag me out of there. Something about "it's not ladylike or christian (!) to want a snake"
My mother is way into symbolism. Something about snakes and the devil? Anyways...
I finally got to the point where she wasn't trashing my interest quite so hard (she mellowed out as she grew up lol). And when I finally moved out, into my best friends house, I acquired Nagini. At first she wouldn't even look at him, it gave her the willies. But now, 6 months on, she's fallen in deep like with my baby. I can have him over to my parents house whenever I want AND when I go home for a few days at Christmas, I have permission to bring the snake and the terrerriam (mostly because no one will be home so there will be no heat in the house.) YAY for family acceptance!!!!
