Question About Moving?

Hello, i have a baby ball python and i am moving Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. The drive is about 9-10 hours from Florida to North Carolina. Right now the snake is in a 20 gallon tank. Would it be better to keep the snake in the tank? (and take the water out and other things that could fly around) or put it in a snake bag that i have with holes and put it in a box like the way they ship them? Also if i go during the day is it better to keep AC on in vehicle or off? I have never drove with one that long before, and would like to know the best method on bringing him with me. Thank You

hmmm..maybe snake bag in a box with heat pads? People experienced with transporting will let you know, I'm sure.

You shouldn't need supplemental heat unless you'll be cooling the car quite a bit with AC, in which case stop by WalMart and pick up a couple of hand warmers in the hunting section to put under the box, preferably wedged between the front and back seats on the floor and with a secure top. If it's a fairly small box, that may be good enough, but otherwise, put it in a snake bag or tied-up pillowcase before putting it in the box for security. Definitely do not transport in the tank. Good luck! My snakes just got moved a week ago to our new home.

If you do use supplemental heat, please keep an eye on it. A heat source in a small, closed container can produce way more heat than you might imagine. If you have one of those digital thermometers with the probe at the end of a long cord, you could stick the probe in the box and have the read-out sitting where you can check it from time to time.

But so long as he hasn't just eaten, he should be fine for a day without any extra heat. A bit of insulation around him, and tuck his box someplace secure away from an AC vent and he should be fine.
