I would love to buy my next one from a breeder in person so that I could get a history on the snake. I have bought my last two from the local petstore and regretted both. I lost one (Amelanisticcorn) due to severe eating problems and the one I have now (pastel ball) came to me very dehydrated and i'm currently trying to bring it back to decent health. The workers had no idea when it had been fed last or anything about its temperament, eating habits, or history. Nor were they able to offer any advice for how to rectify its health issues. So i'm officially done with pet stores.
I know there are tons of sources to buy online but i'm hesitant to do so for multiple reasons. Firstly that it's so easy to make yourself look good online but turn out to be a horrible source; but mainly that I'm fairly new to the world of snake ownership and I would worry that I wouldn't be able to handle any complications due to shipping a live animal. So i'd prefer to just get it in person. At least until i'm more confident in myself with providing adequate care. My end goal is to one day breed.
New to the site, so far it looks like an awesome source of information. I'll try to upload some pictures in another thread to get some advice. Just putting my two cents in here.

If you're unsure about a breeder online, you can always do two things.
1) Check here and ask for anyone's experience with the breeder
2) Check the Fauna Board Of Inquiry: http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...splay.php?f=13
Any good breeder knows how to ship responsibly so the snake has the best chance to arrive in good shape. This doesn't guarantee nothing bad will happen, but shipping snakes has a very high success rate when done by someone knowledgeable.
It is okay to use pine bedding for snakes.
It is okay to feed live food to snakes.

Thank you for the link. I printed that master list of breeders in the US from this site and when I get to the point of buying my next one I plan on asking around here first to get some feedback. And I realize I'm probably just being overly skiddish about getting a live animal in the mail. I barely trust shipping clothing..
