    breeding size help

okay so like everyone else I'm trying breeding for the first time ..

my females only 750 grams and about 14 months old, and I'm wondering how long i should expect before she's big enough

i know every ball varies and weight isn't everything , but I'm just asking for opinions based of experience etc ect.

im also aware the girth vs the length , the age, and weight are all factors.

again i just want some general ideas.

    thanks.

It could vary a lot. From my experience once they hit about 500 grams and move up to smalls they shoot up there. I'd guess 6 months +, if she's slow maybe a year.

No one can tell you how long it will take for her to be proper weight depends on her growth which depend on feeding (prey size and schedule) and you also have to take in consideration that many BP hit a "wall" at around 900 grams.

I have female up to size at 18 months just like I had female up to size at 3 years, depends on the animal.

I would guess that is she's feeding consistently and she surpasses the 900 gram "wall" she should be ready to go by next season

I think the words you were searching for were, "Thank you Deborah for the response." Deborah answered your question and she is right about no one can tell you. For someone who is a newbie and asking to learn, you shouldn't be so dismissive to the advice of one of the senior members of the club who has bred and raised many snakes. "Youngens need to learn respect."

Every snake is different that is why no one can tell you conclusively when your girl will be ready. Also, not everyone's experience is the same so you don't want to speak in generalities. Some girls will eat everything put in front of them and reach a reasonable size to breed in 18 to 24 months. Others may be finicky eaters, or go off feed for extended periods of time, and that may take them up to three years or longer. The goal should be having a female that is at least 18+ months old and at least 1500 grams before you try to breed her. It isn't either/or. Both of these numbers are pretty important. You probably couldn't breed a female that is too young, because she simply isn't mature enough to go. But the size and condition is very important.

You may be able to put a smaller female with a male sooner, and she may even breed, but you run the risk of complications. Best case scenario is she lays a very small clutch, 2 or 3 eggs because that is all her body can accomodate. That would give you only a few chances to achieve what you want, and if you don't get them, it will be a whole year before you can try again. There is also the possibility she could slug out which means none of the eggs are viable and so you basically just stressed her out, and went through all the motions, with nothing at all to show for it. Worst case scenario is she gets egg bound where she is too small to pass the eggs out of her body and it either kills her or requires an expensive surgery. All of these are less then optimal for you or the snake.

She will get there when she gets there, so be patient and enjoy the journey. Look at it this way, until she is ready you have all kinds of time to read up on things, build an incubator, and have everything ready that you need. Then when it is the right time hopefully you will have a very satifying experience.
