It can get up to 120 + even hot enough to cause damage. Never use a heat tape or mat with out a thermostat.

    Re: THG heat tape

Why do you need heat tape to get that hot in the first place?

If it's getting that hot, it's definitely not on a thermostat.

    Re: THG heat tape

Im aware I just like to know how hot it should get unregulated. I know about thermostats. Could we answer my question please, did I do something since it is only reading slightly above 100 degrees.

    Just for fun or what?

There's not a set temperature so it will fluctuate. If you're really interested, then contact THG. They're pretty good at replying.

    Re: THG heat tape

I can remember one time I ordered regular heat tape and the hottest it would get is 80 so I contacted the makers and it turned out I got a bad batch so I was just checking.

    Heat tape temp

Just got word there was a thread here-

First, which width element are you using?

Next- the max temp can vary tremendously depending a few factors. Room temp and the surface it is mounted to are among the biggest. You will also see a lower "open air" temp than if you set something on it and start building up some heat. This is why you want to regulate it with a thermostat. These variable, especially room temp, can change with day/night and seasons.

    Re: THG heat tape

I got the 11". I left it plug in for about a hour and a half and it got up to 135 was the highest I seen it read. I have jt plugged into my thermostat and every single tub reads the exact same temps (within about .5 degrees) with the older style tape I would be a degree or two higher in some tubs. THG will be my heat tape choice for now on.

    Re: THG heat tape

The 11" will get the warmest of the group, good for back heat. You will need to regulate your temp and I would guess you have it mounted on something that is a pretty good insulator and a pretty warm room to get that temp output. I am glad to hear you are getting good results!
