    I think it is not blown out of proportion. I know several people who have ball pythons who absolutely refuse anything but live, and I have one myself. Maybe a kingsnake, or even a boa would work better for you, as they very seldom have issues with eating f/t, but however in the case of the boa you might want to consider the size, as most redtails grow to 8 ft.
