New Here but I brought Rattie Photos :)

I am new to registering here but have been lurking & reading posts on BP forum for awhile. The climate here in the rat area is kinder than many of the pet-rat online communities. Much appreciated.

Death in the family has made things stark and somewhat bleak. I am looking at hard decisions. I have enjoyed my rodent friends for many years but I am looking at keeping just a few, just enough to keep my lines going. It has been nice to take a break and visit here and see lighthearted posts. Some posts have made me reminisce and I wanted to share a few photos of my rats.

    Siamese

    Offspring from the Siamese above

    Another Siamese

A cream-white color with black eyes popped out of the Siamese litters.

Started getting more black eyed rats with white coats. BEWs? Hmm.

The color variation is interesting with some having cream and some having white coats in this line.

Also shaded noses on some of them.

    Here are Merle babies:

And here are three littermates, the two smaller ones are Dwarf.

Last year or so I began showing the rats to other breeders to get opinions on colors. No definitive answers, but official names for the color/variety are problems that don't keep me up at night. I have just enjoyed them for themselves. Thanks for looking; it is often fun to share.

    Beautiful Rats

You have some gorgeous coats and colors, that Fall themed picture of the BEW looking rat is precious. I could imagine seeing that in a calendar. I recognize your USR from somewhere, but I can't put my finger on it. I know I have been on your site at some point though!

I'm a transplant from the fancy community as well, you'll find a few more people around here are. This community is very laid back and friendly. I joined here and a different rat forum on the same day, here I was having nice conversations and getting information as well as helping others. In the rat forum people were fussing at me for being a feeder breeder and an aspiring show breeder. It's just better here, though there is one Facebook rat genetics group that I love to frequent.

I'm sorry that you have been having a difficult time and my condolences for your recent loss. I hope everything gets better for you soon and thank you for sharing your beautiful rattie pictures!
I do not own snakes (though I have before) I am here to help with rat related questions.

Beautiful rats. I would kill to have some black eyed whites again. I love the stark white coats but have never cared for the pink or ruby eyes most have. Are yours from breeding high white marked rats?

I love seeing new kinds of rats. I still have some siamese and dumbo siamese, a few rex, a lot of blue and blue hooded.

I just eliminated all but one last nursing female solid black rat. When I got them, they were chewers, but I'd already agreed to take them. I kept the first generation in a glass tank so they couldn't chew, but they've never been "good" rats. They escape at first opportunity and will not be caught(alive). My other rats might get out once in a blue moon but usually come find me to beg for treats. I always reward them with treats and put more treats in the bin when they go back.

So I eliminated all the solid black line. I know there's some that still carry that bloodline, and I'll have to weed out any others showing issues. Mostly my colony is sweet natured and calm. I've culled everything wild or mean. Oddly, I have only a few albino left now!

Great pics! I'd love to have some Siamese, but no one breeds them in this area.

    Do you also have snakes?

I have been on pet rat forums, and although some are good places for discussion, if you mention breeding or a slight interest in it (not to mention feeders) you will get flamed or blacklisted... I really don't understand this. There seem to be no breeding-friendly rat forums, yet they all decry how people buy rats from pet stores.. If there were more breeders out there, this wouldn't be as big of an issue. It seems to follow the "you should only rescue animals and not breed them" train of thought that is popular right now.

Love those Merle! I'm hoping to get some someday, just love the color. Looks like you ended up with some black Eyed siamese /Himalayan too. Did they come out of a red eyed siamese cross, or from full color parents? It has previously been described as dominant to red eyed siamese, but I'm interested if you find different results.
Why keep a snake? Why keep any animal? Because you enjoy the animal, find something beautiful and fascinating about it, and it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

I really have missed the Australian Rat Forum. There were a few USA breeders that enjoyed spots there; it was a great group and so much more open minded than the US based groups. So it is nice this forum is much the same.

And thank you. It's definitely one step at a time.
