Going to an expo in a few weeks and want to be prepared if I bring home an arboreal.

I'm going to buy some sort of PVC pipe, tube, or wood stick thing, then I'm going to solder a hole and run the "perch" through the holes. It won't really be removable but it's only for around 6 months until it comes out of QT. My question is, what type of product from a hardware store can be used for this ? I think pipe will be a bit too thick, but I don't know what to call what I need. What can I use to accomplish this ? Thanks.

Is this for a baby snake? I've seen people use bird wooden ladders with success for small jungle carpets, etc. I may also be bringing back an arboreal from the Atlanta repticon myself and this is what I was planning on using.
