    Photo Shoot 10/11/14

Trying out some different colored background. This is actually a bit more difficult since you cannot just adult out any flaws in the background, and cannot clone either. Using a white balance card and having a reference to use in Lightroom was key. All that needed to be down was set reference white balance, adjust the curves to each extreme and done.

I really like the different styles each backround brings to the animals. The first style is busy, I like second style best, the one with the Dream Bee.

I really like the grey one it's simple but a nice change from the usual white backgrounds. The first one is too busy for my taste but that fire YB pewter is making me forget all about it

On the backgrounds, I agree the white tile look is too distracting. I like the burlap and the smooth gray. More importantly, I love your collection! That dream bee is awesome, and the pewter stuff is delish.

First, nice shots of the collection, as usual. Here are my honest opinions - take them for what they're worth ( at best):

The gray background is the clear winner here, but I think its because of the other choice's downfalls. It's a nice change from white, but I can't say I prefer it over white. The shot of your DG, for example, almost starts to feel like its leaning towards axanthic - muting/dulling him out for lack of a better way to say it. It's weird though, because typically gray backgrounds enhance the colors of the subjects. I'm just not getting that here for some reason.
    • The white hexagons make it look kind of like an optical illusion where the blushed spots of your Fire YB Pewter disappear into the background. Cool effect, but it doesn't put the snakes first as the star of the photo.
    • I'm not sure what it is about the burlap background, but seeing the snakes on there doesn't scream quality to me. They're good shots and represent the snakes well, but my subconscious is telling me a different story.

    I hope this helps!

I see some of what you are getting at. Most folks have really liked the burlap, so that may just be how different folks like it. I think it will work better on slightly darker animals. I wanted to get my GHI YB in, but he was not participating.

Big thing was I am just getting tired of the white. I think I will do more with the grey for sure. The others were more for something fun and different.

To be honest, I didn't look at the background

You truly have some amazing snakes. Beautiful!
