The gray background is the clear winner here, but I think its because of the other choice's downfalls. It's a nice change from white, but I can't say I prefer it over white. The shot of your DG, for example, almost starts to feel like its leaning towards axanthic - muting/dulling him out for lack of a better way to say it. It's weird though, because typically gray backgrounds enhance the colors of the subjects. I'm just not getting that here for some reason.
  • The white hexagons make it look kind of like an optical illusion where the blushed spots of your Fire YB Pewter disappear into the background. Cool effect, but it doesn't put the snakes first as the star of the photo.
  • I'm not sure what it is about the burlap background, but seeing the snakes on there doesn't scream quality to me. They're good shots and represent the snakes well, but my subconscious is telling me a different story.

I hope this helps!
I see some of what you are getting at. Most folks have really liked the burlap, so that may just be how different folks like it. I think it will work better on slightly darker animals. I wanted to get my GHI YB in, but he was not participating.

Big thing was I am just getting tired of the white. I think I will do more with the grey for sure. The others were more for something fun and different.
