Green Burmese
Well i guess this could be my introduction post as well as my few questions i have.... Yes i am new to the forum and i know how that goes being the new guy on a forum, but i have been searching through here for a while now. Although im new to the forum, not very new to pythons. Anyways, i just picked up my first burm from a local reptile store. Shes a green burmese female about a year old, about 2 1/2'. I had to shuffle my other Ball pythons around and out of the big cage they were in so i could put the burm in the large cage i have (YES, i completely cleaned out the entire cage and put in new bedding and fresh hides). I guess my question is, i need to know more or less how to get her to calm down. ive had her almost a week now, and i cant even get her out of the cage. She sits in a position thats not very easy for me grab her out of the cage without striking right at me. She hiss's extremely loud and i can tell shes not very happy.
YES i know she needs time to adjust to her new home and what not and im not trying to rush it.
I attempted to feed her exactly what/ how the store was feeding her. But no go, she struck at the rat a couple times but didnt seem interested in actually eating it. more just pissed.
Now here comes the newbie question, i honestly can not tell if shes about to shed or not. Her eyes seem pretty glazed over so im pretty sure thats a yes, but i just wasnt 100% as i havent seen many green burms. Im aware that if she IS about to shed, this could be why shes so upset.
Ive been in the cage misting it/ refilling water/ and trying to have as much interaction with her as i can everyday. Just want to know any of your opinions on this.
Other than that i kinda just wanted to show her off on here and make somewhat of an introduction as i plan on learning a lot from this site!

here is a picture from earlier today i took. after looking at her a little closer im positive shes shedding. i can defiantly tell from her eyes. , sorry for the bad cell phone pics. My nice camera is dead right now.....

Its usually recommended to let your snake get settled in for 10-14 days with no handling. Not letting it settle in could throw it off feeding, but a shed could too.
I would push the half logs against the cage walls to make them seems as if they only have one opening. This will make a snake feel more secure.
The lights you have would worry me. I would put a mesh protector around them to protect the snake from touching the bulbs.

Re: Green Burmese
Yeah I had the logs against it and she kinda just kept pushing it away.
And the lights are defiantly getting covers again asap. I had some on there before and when I cleaned the entire cage I pulled them off cause they needed to be re done.

Re: Green Burmese
My guess is that the clouded eyes are making the snake more aggressive, but there could be some other issues with it too. Two and a half feet is pretty small for a year old Burm, should be more like five to seven feet at a year old, which makes me think it hasn't been fed much and could possibly have something to do with the aggression. I hook train mine, she's not aggressive at all, but it's nice to use a hook to pull her towards me and she is always fine.
I would say to leave the snake alone until it has shed, then try using a hook and see if the aggression settles down once you get it out of the enclosure. Burms are great snakes, I hope you have better luck with it.

Re: Green Burmese
The store said they had been feeding her a small rat once a week. I'd say she's about 2.5 - 3'. And they more specifically said ABOUT a year. So it could be younger.... Yeah I made a nice hook the other day and planned on trying that after she shed. The store also did say she would hiss in the cage and be aggressive, but once you just grabbed her and got her out she was fine. So maybe I'm just being a worry wart. Haha

Re: Green Burmese
So just a quick update on my new girl.
She's calmed down a lot since she came home. Doesn't hiss and strike at the cage anymore.she had a very nice shed as I assumed was happening. I actually had her out twice and was very carful with her. But she's getting much better. Which I'm stoked about.
Only issue still is eating....
She still won't take a fresh kill or frozen/thawed. This coming Friday will be three weeks since the store fed her last. Here's a timeline of what I've tried since I got her:
Bought on Monday,
Tried to feed fresh kill on Friday because they were feeding once every friday.
Didn't take it, so in the freezer it went.
Thawed under warm water the next Thursday. Wouldn't go near it.
Tried another fresh kill on this past Monday and still nothing.
Just worried cause she's gotta be getting starving by now.....
Her cage temps and humidity are perfect. And the past few nights I've seen her out and moving around a lot more which makes me think she's still just getting used to her new home.
