The UTH is a thin heating element (wire) encased in a pouch that can stick to a surface. This 'technology' has been used for a long, long time. Added on a $10 lamp dimmer and it's kept steady temp so far (admittedly I've only been at it for a month).

Just got this gauge from Home Hardware (probably any major hardware chain will have their own) and am quite happy with it. Has a probe so you can see both room temp and enclosure temp + humidity and can show highs and lows over the past day or week.

My recommendation if you're going to be buying from PetSmart is to first sign up for PetPerks, so you can get some discounts on your purchases.
