    Is This An Orange Ghost?

I love my new snake, its very friendly and looks very pretty. I've been told its a male but I think I'll get it sexed for myself, because petco seemed unsure. They sold him as an 8 month old, orange ghost. I've been looking at pics online and honestly, he doesn't look like any of the pics I've seen so far lol but because I'm an amateur enthusiast, I figured I'd ask some people that really know their stuff.

Does the ghost effect come in more as they get older?

Is it just me, or does it seem more brown than orange? Adversely, does the color come in more as they get older?

I'm pretty sure it is at least a ghost of some kind, it does have that shed look in the color, but not dramatically like I've seen in most pics. Heres a pic of him.

btw, just as a crazy little bit of info of this guy, I got him for $75! He was originally priced at $300, but I was told he'd been in the shop around 4 months, so they had to put a 75% markdown on him. I couldn't resist for the price, it looked ghost enough for me to take a shot with $75. In short, I got an incredible deal (I hope). Even if not, I love him all the same.

Thanks for listening to my dribble lol what do you guys think?

Nice, thank you! I figured they were reputable on that level (knowing the actual species of the animal lol), I just wanted to make sure. You guys rock!

Re: Is This An Orange Ghost?

also, I just wanted to clarify, I usually only buy from my local pet shop, they're good people. I just needed a thermometer and hygrometer for my new royal BP (got him at the local shop), because he was going into shed, and I wanted to make sure I had his levels right (which they were without effort lol I was surprised). But they were closed when I got off work and noticed the shed.

That's the only reason I was even at petco. I really try to just support local people instead of the conglomerates, but when I seen the price on this guy, I was glad I broke my personal preference lol the clarification probably wasn't necessary, but I didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea, like I'm some tool that only shops at a conglomerate lol

Thanks again everyone for the prompt responses! I'm excited to be apart of this great community

Single gene males are worth between $50 and $100, Ghosts, Pastels, etc.

Just because they had it marked for $300 does not mean that is what it is worth. If your snake is a male, you paid about what you should have. If it is a female, you got a bit of a better deal. You probably could have gotten a nicer looking Ghost for about the same price from a breeder.

Oh believe me, when I see something retail, I know you can easily take a huge chunk off the price, as far as realistic value. I knew he wasn't worth $300, I figured more like $150 at best.

I think that's why he stayed on a shelf for so long lol I kind of wanted to "rescue" it (for lack of better way to say it, that's a little over exaggerative lol), because he had crickets from the other animals all in his tank, and the tank seemed too small too, it looked like about half the size of a 10 gallon. I knew I could give it more attention than petco would and had. I'm pretty sure crickets in his tank are probably harmless, it looked bad though.

All of the breeders I look for in my area seem over priced unfortunately. But I'm still new at this, and I'm sure there are people I'm just not seeing. Thank you for the reply!
