Just a Few Quick Questions
Hello all! This is my first post so please bear with me haha.
I have had my little guy (Jace, pictured in my avatar) for about three months now. He is doing well and I have even successfully switched him to f/t! He had a rough first shed but I have since corrected the problem.
My questions are: Do I need both a UTH and lamp? I have both and used to keep them on at the same time (50w infrared bulb) but I found that the lamp sucked out the humidity in my tank and I have read that having both is not necessary. What do you all recommend?
Also, I am confused as to what temps to keep. Every thing I read says something different. I am currently keeping his hot spot at 87-90, cool side at 75-81, and humidity 50-60% and 60-70% during shed. I kind of just averaged everything I read but I would like to see what the majority of you say.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read! I will probably be making more posts in the future lol
p.s. this may be a silly question but on the signatures I have pretty much figured out what the 1.0 and 2.0 means, but what is meant when someone puts, for example, "0.1 (insert name here)" does that mean their pet has passed?

1.2.3
1 equals males
2 equals females
3 equals unsexed
Whatever the number is equals the numbers owned so 3.2.4 means 3 males, 2 females, and 4 unsexed.
If your room temp stays within the proper range a uth alone is fine. Most people with AC, without a designated snake room will need both though. Those with a designated snake room will sometimes keep their collection by only using proper ambient temps by heating the room or a mixture. In my snake room I use a oil heater but I still provide uth. Some snakes use them some don't. I leave it up to them.

Hi, sorry to intrude on this thread but I have a couple questions also.
My ambient room temp is about 75 degrees and my cage is 18" W x 18" H x 36" L. I have a heat lamp and a UTH on the hot side (90-93 deg) and the cool side fluctuates from 75-79 . Is my room temp a good ambient temperature to keep the heat lamp off and just use the UTH?
Also, my heat lamp is sitting on top of the screen. Do I need to get a clamp? My snake likes to poke at the top sometimes but he can't keep himself straight long enough for a burn to happen (I don't think).
