Temp in house

I am not new to this but before I had my own BP's and had a environment tank. I am now responsible for my friends snake while he's in boot camp and away. I like to keep my house cold at night and I noticed when I got up in the middle of the night my house was below 60 and his cage was a little on the cold so I turned off his night light and turned on his day light. How can I help keep his tank heat regulated and also what temps should it rang around?

Is the night bulb not same same wattage as the day bulb?

If not go buy one at the pet stores tomorrow. They are about $7-8.

When you say a little on the cold side what was the temperature? What are you reading the temperature with, as in, what kind of thermometer(digital or analog)? And where is it located?

Is there a under tank heater?

I do believe so. My friend set it up last night and gave me the basics day and night lights. It does have a underneath heating pad but he told me that he only turns it on in the winter. It's reading 79.2 and that's on the side with the blue light. Should I go but another digital terminator for the other side of the tank?

As long as the coolest part of the tank does not fall below 77 your good. It sounds like the night light was working just fine.

With temps that low your best bet with just one animal is to have 2 heat pad and one or 2 t-stat (depending on the one you buy)

One heat pad will need to provide temps for the hot spot (86/88) while the other temp for the cool end (76/78)

Energy wise heat pad will be more efficient and there will be less heat loss then when using a bulb.

I don't think his friend is going to want a bunch of money dumped into his tank and come back to everything changed up. Just wrapping the tank in cardboard would keep some more heat but I would only do that if we find the other side is getting alot colder than 79.

Another cheap fix is changing the day bulb out to a night bulb and running them both 24/7.

I would do both of those if the second thermometer shows an issue.

Thanks and I will try a few things it stayed reading 79 so that's good. I'm just really paranoid because I had put one in shock before. A freak accident but it makes you more aware now
