Hey folks,

Newbie to the board; well...to snakes in general. I kind of have a bit of a fear, but I'm learning about them (through this website). I'm hoping that after a while I can even buy one (once I feel comfortable with my knowledge regarding husbandry).

I don't suppose there are any other Ontarians out there? I'm from the GTA.

Much appreciated. I'm sure I'll get my (much needed) answers from this site. You guys seem to run a pretty tight ship. I love these types of sites; I belong to one for fish, one for turtles and another for breeding mice.

Anyhoo...I look forward to beginning my journey to learning about these creatures. I'd love to have one. I'm a bit on the nervous side but I think after I'm educated enough on them I should be ok.

welcome new comer! im still fairly new to the sight but have been working with snakes for about 6 years. I too had a fear of snakes. I decided I was going to face my fear and take it on, head on. I purchased a spider ball python to help get over my fear of snakes, little did I know he would be the most food aggressive ball I have ever seen! none the less, after a few months of handling him, I grew to love ball pythons and shortly after, all snakes. now I cant get enugh of the critters! keep pushing yourself to further understand and love them, and I assure you you will never look at them the same

Welcome, I've only been hear a short while. Kept snakes for a good 28 years. Don't like to interact on the internet. My first forum. So far it's been nice. Hope you have a similar experience. Happy herping.

Welcome! Just reading the forums can be pretty rewarding and educational, there are many knowledgeable members and lots of resources. Get acquainted with the species and husbandry, like you intend, and your appreciation will increase! Visiting reptile shows is also a good way to meet local breeders and get comfortable being around snakes and others. Good luck and I hope they become one of your favorite species!

Hello new comer I'm glad you've come here to get over your fear of snakes. Stay long enough and you'll be addicted to them. This site really fuels mine, it's crazy lol. I look at all the amazing morphs and I just want them all, but anyway I'm kinda in the same boat. I'd love to get over my fear of spiders, more specifically tarantulas. There are a bunch of people here that Love T's and seeing there's has me really interested but I know id never own one. I don't really mind to look at them but if a spider gets too close I freak out lol. I think at the next expo I'll try and touch one maybe even hold one if I'm feeling extra brave! Let us conquer our fears together my new friend

Hello. I wanted to say that I was iffy regarding snakes at first. I played with garter snakes growing up but eventually got to a point for whatever reason where I didn't want to touch them. Then as an adult I never thought I would own a snake. Now having several it's completely different to me. I got my first ball python given to me from a forum member who graciously donated 2 snakes to the first two people to respond. I was a bit nervous about handling him even though he was a baby. As I started to get more and more even full grown adult females I was still a little nervous around them. After spending a lot of time with them I began to feel like I knew them and could read their gestures well enough to know what I could get away with. At first I would pet them with a snake hook and if they didn't hiss or look upset I would pet them then pick them up. Now I don't have a single snake that I would think twice about opening their tub and scooping them up. This transformation happened in less then 4 months. I'm going to assume that you'll lose the tad bit of nervousness once you learn your snake pretty well and also realize how docile these animals are. What made you consider getting a ball python or other snake?
