Hello from SoCal
Hi all,
My name is Robert and I am just getting started in the world of herp. Mech. Engineer, MTG player, TF2ist, and cat enthusiast as well. I've always been a snake/reptile fan and will be looking to own my first in about a year or so. Been doing huge amounts of research to figure out what exactly I'm looking for, what sort of enclosure I'd like to use/build, etc. I live in San Diego and just went to the Reptile SuperShow a few weeks ago; I love being around so many of the critters.
Thanks to all for all the helpful info on this site!

Thanks guys I just graduated summer from Kettering University in Michigan, where I was working (co-oping) in automotive; I worked at Tenneco and BorgWarner over there doing exhaust design/transmission stuff. I'm now working in aerospace at Pratt & Whitney Aeropower until they close in 2016; I like aerospace a lot so far. Are you in engineering as well?

I am a Developmental Engineering Tech in the bio-med R&D sector. I do a lot of interfacing between electrical and mechanical as well as system integration and testing, troubleshooting and a little machining.

Ahh biomed... I am told that is an impossible field to enter if you don't already have some experience in it R&D sounds like fun.

It seems like its touch and go sometimes there is an opening for entry level, but for the most part since its R&D they want people with experience. I am one of probably 6 people that are in our late 20s early 30s the majority are 49-60 years old. So yes, it is pretty competitive. My sector deals with ventilation. R&D is fun, I have been doing it for 4 years and don't really see myself leaving the R&D environment.

Re: Hello from SoCal
That's cool. The generational gap is outrageous in the midwest; it seems no young people want to work in engineering over there. Its certainly better at my workplace.
It does seem like a lot of engineering is leaving SoCal; hopefully I'll be able to find a job come 2015/2016!

Agreed, we will see. It seems like a lot of companies in my sector are moving to AZ or TX.
