It's a cool idea, I like mine but I recommend letting it air out before putting the snake or whatever animal you have in the tank.

For a 75 gallon I'd probably buy at least 4 cans. They're 5 bucks a piece at home depot. You have to get the coats thick enough so that you don't get any light through that side of the tank. Don't hold the can too close to the tank or it will just look like drips of paint lol

OK, thanks for the advice! I'm really glad I found something different to do for a background, the 3D ones are super expensive and even the aquarium type clings are kind a pricy.

Probes should not be used inside a snake enclosure. Unnecessary risk, imo.
Your probe should be secured on the outside of the enclosure and between the heat mat and the glass.
Purchase a temp gun to monitor the hot spot temp on the inside of the tub. With glass, there's a thick barrier between the mat and the inside of the enclosure, so you may need to set your thermostat higher than 90 to actually reach an appropriate temp inside.

I got an UTH and a tstat recently
I set it to be 82 at night and 90 during the day
But it doesn't get past 80 during the day..
The probe is inside, under the substrate but next to the wall of the tank

Shall I set my thermostat higher then?
But shouldn't the temperature increase till it reaches my settings, even if the probe inside?

If you are looking too for a baby thermometer which is durable and hygienic, check out Thermee! I bought my thermometer from them and I've been using this for almost a year and I can say that the quality is really awesome!

I fixed the problem! I have ultratherm ( I think that's the company ) UTHs for all my set ups. I just hot glued the probes for my tstats inside the tanks. Once all my ball pythons are in apcages I'll go out and buy a herpstat lol.

But for now everything is good to go! Thanks for your help buddy!

I'd like more details about how you hot-glued the probes because I'm thinking about doing the same but worry about the snake peeing on it and cooling it down, which would cause the thermostat to kick in and raise the heat.
Are they covered in plastic tubing or anything? Did you apply the glue over the probe or the wire?
