do you need hides for a ball python?
Do I need a hide in its tub if I cover 3 sides with black construction paper?

Do you need a bed when you can place a towel on the floor? That's my take on this topic.

Re: do you need hides for a ball python?
I don't use hides for any of my snakes over the 1000 gram mark for a simple reason. None of them use it. I do provide them for snakes under that mark. I've just found at roughly that Mark they stop using them. I have one that still uses them so I keep them in there. Also I use racks that are covered on three sides. I'm not quite sure how a snake would react if you're talking about an aquarium

Re: do you need hides for a ball python?
Like a lot of things, the answer is "It depends."
- Do you currently have a ball python? If no, then I recommend providing a hide (or hides) for your new arrival. If yes, proceed to #2.
- Do you currently have a hide (or hides) for your ball python? If no, proceed to #3. If yes, proceed to #3.
- Is your ball python currently eating? If no, then I recommend proving a hide (or hides) for your ball python. If yes, then I don't see a reason to provide a hide.
I hope this helps!

I provide hides for all mine, and they all use them, but I guess it just depends on the snake, and if they will use them.

It depends - is it in a tank or a rack/tub? How big is it? Is it eating?
When I was new to BP's I kept them in tanks. That changed quickly... but in tanks they had several hides, deep aspen, and lots of fake greenery.
In tubs/racks most of my 1200+ gram adults don't have hides, one particularly defensive female adult does or she stops eating, and the younger ones all do have hides.
