Looks like a nice start. I'm concerned about how close the heat source is to the substrate, though. I hope you plan to have it on a thermostat.

With two pieces of paper towel laying on the glass right now, the surface temperature is 89.4 That is with the heat lamp off. Is this too much?

The heat lamp sits 24 inches above the bottom of the cage and the surface temp with it on has been around 94.5 or so. The colder side sits at around 82

You'll need to monitor it over a period of hours to be sure, but 89.4 is perfect if it stays there. That kind just tends to get fairly hot, and I'm sure you'd rather your snake not get burnt, so I'd be careful about it is all.

I have it going right now and will monitor it over night. It has climed to 92 degrees now so i might change it up a bit. Maybe I will just go with a heat lamp.

Just see how it does. You can always leave the heat lamp off if the belly heat is adequate. And in any event, thermostats are pretty cheap nowadays, and dimmer switches are even cheaper.

I went ahead and moved the heating pad from being attached to the glass to sitting on the base under the glass. I will se how that does tonight and then I will do the same forit and the heat lamp tomorrow.
