Pastel or Fire?
I am interested in having a pet python but I want to move up a little bit more than a normal python to start with.
I was just wondering which of the two (Pastel or Fire) has more yellow in them even when they become adults?
Also if I'm only going to get one snake, would a tub still be better than an exo terra that is 36” x 18” x 12”?
One more thing, if you happen to live in the SF VALLEY 818 area, does anyone know of a breeder?
Thank you.

from pictures I've googled, it looks like pastels are a little brighter as adults, both showed some signes of browning, but with fires it was a little more obvious.
as for your caging question, are looking for a just one as a pet or looking to house a lot of snakes?
if the answer is just one or 2 as pets then the terrarium will be just fine, if you a looking to eventually have a lot of snakes, then a rack and tub system is best.
good luck in your search and I hope you can find the animal you are looking for to make you happy.
Cheers

That's a little backwards, fires get better and better with age, Idk if I'd call it yellow, but they are bright, pastels are known for Browning out, there are exceptions though.

I personally like Fires. As someone else on here already said, it all depends on personal preference.
If you're going to have only one Ball Python, i'd suggest going PVC enclosure like Animal Plastics. It something that looks much better than a tub but very easy to maintain both humidity and heat.
Don't know any breeders, but I do have a lot of experience with a local reptile shop in Chatsworth called Exotic Life Fish & Reptiles. I've bought 3 BPs from there and all 3 were beautiful morphs in excellent health. You pay retail price, but I think it's worth it because you get quality animals. Good luck in your search!

Thanks! I've been wanting to check out their store. Reptile outpost closed down last Friday.. Not sure of the reason. I'm looking for a ball with bright yellow colors even as an adult. But my budget for the snake itself is around $100-$150 at most and it has to be a female.
Also is the exo terra that I mentioned earlier good for a bp? I heard that tubs are better at controlling humidity because it's plastic. I'll check out that PVC enclosure. Oh what about vision cages?
As far as food is concerned, do you get your feeder mice from them too? I don't think I can purchase more than what the snake will eat per week. I live with some folks and they don't like the idea of a frozen mice next to their meat lol.
Thank you all for the replies, I'm sure with the help of this website my first ball python will last me a lifetime.

there's no telling whether a pastel will brown out or not...it's mostly a game of chance. a good place to start would be to buy from a reputable breeder who are into line breeding bright pastels, but even then there's no 100% that the yellow will remain into adulthood.
bumblebees are in your price range and very bright yellow at birth but not all remain that way. if you can spare more cash, some of the brighter pastel combos have one or more of the following: orange dream, enchi, fire, vanilla....
1.0 pied
0.1 spider het pied
0.1 normal het pied
1.0 pinstripe het albino
0.1 albino
0.3 normal het albino
1.2 cinnamon
0.1 lesser
0.1 bumblebee
0.1 pastel
0.2 normal

Would you kindly give me some links for good and affordable breeders? Thank you!
