I understand your fear but it's better to at least try and do something to make it better than do nothing and allow it to get worse. I've been in odd situations with my snakes where I was very afraid to help them but had to. A snake I purchased once had mites in it's eye sockets and I was hoping that after I treated the mites and killed them that they mites in her eye would fall out but they wouldn't I had to get them out they were literally so disgusting and uncomfortable looking that I couldn't allow them to stay in there dead or alive so I had to CAREFULLY remove then and I could tell she appreciated it/felt better not having them in her eyes. So please try your best and help the snake I don't think you can do much wrong with spreading the sugar paste on the prolapse, and soaking them in a sugary water solution. The sugar just brings down the inflammation and allows the prolapse to recede back into the cloaca without issue. Just try and keep us updatedwe will help you along the way as much as we can. Could you also post up a pic of the prolapse so we can see how bad it is?
