Is Aspen Substrate Safe for Ingesting??

I recently migrated my snakes to a rack system....YAY! I am using aspen substrate and when I fed my snakes I noticed a little bit of bedding on the mouth of one of my snakes. This sparked a question. Is it safe for Ball Pythons to ingest aspen substrate in tiny amounts?

To a certain extent. Aslong as its not mouth fulls its fine. You more so have to worry about the long "tooth"pick pieces getting there jaws stuck open i find vs them eating a bit that got stuck to rat. When i feed FT for the picky ones who are shy i swat away the substrate and place it on plastic for them.

They digest fur, bones, teeth so a little substrate is no big deal.

My girl usually eats in a separate tub but when she doesn't take in tub I feed in her cage. I have picked aspen out of her mouth a time or two, and stressed about it. After talking with my breeder and others on this forum, I no longer stress about this. They've convinced me that small amounts is not going to harm her. I know feeding in a seperate tub is not necessary but it works well for us 95% of the time and when it doesn't, she doesn't hesitate eating in her cage.

Same here, usually feed outside the tank in a plastic tub too. Just last night my son's normal had himself all hidden in ambush mode in his cool side hide so instead of digging him out and upsetting him I just dangled a small mouse in from of the hides opening and he struck hard!
