Guys what kind of snake was nagini ?

It struck me the other day that Nagini from harry potter does not look like a terrifying snake at all,I kind of want to pet it even... point being from what I can tell its like a burmese crossed with a carpet python ( head to body proportion wise ). Do you feel Nagini is scary ? what would you use instead if you don't think Nagini is scary ? ( I personally have trouble finding snakes scary ) and most of all WHY DID THEY GIVE A CONSTRICTOR POISON ?

Nagini is not a real snake species. While she's colored like a Reticulated Python... we all know they're not venomous.

Nagini was a large, green snake, roughly twelve feet long and as thick as a man's thigh. In the movies, she is portrayed as a reticulated python, despite the fact that pythons are non-venomous and do not even have fangs.


There is no known species of venomous snake matching Nagini's description; therefore, she is most likely a species of snake found only in the magical world. This would also account for her unusually high level of intelligence, far beyond that of a normal snake. Another possibility for her mismatching description is that she was heavily modified by Voldemort's dark magic, granting her such venomous aspect, as most of his other horcruxes and even his own body had been.
