16 Quart Tub Heating
Hello everyone,
I am getting a new pied ball python and I bought a couple of sizes for her to grow into until adulthood so I can buy another glass tank/t8 when she is ready for that size.
My question is how would you keep ambient temps up in a single plastic tub?
I have a uth, thermostat, and another accurite thermometer for her, and I am assuming that you cannot use a heat lamp on the tub lest you melt the entire thing.
My bedroom hovers around 80F, where I keep Kaa in a 40 gallon breeder and have yet to use the heat lamp as his tank stays around 80-82 with ambient temps. Would it be okay to keep her in the same room since it's warm? I live in a single bedroom apartment and I keep the AC on in my living room so the temperature stays around 76-78F in that room, but I worry about a RI with temperatures like that.
My other question is that the uth is a zoomed one and from what I've heard is they have a sticky side? I do have heat tape and heavy duty foil. Do I just tape the UTH to the buttom of the tub instead of using the adhesive on the actual uth so I can use it again?
Thanks a lot.

Ambient temps depends on the ambient temp of your room at 76/78 there is nothing to worry about.
I am not crazy about sticking anything to an enclosure simply because once you do it makes cleaning a lot more difficult, the advantage of a tub you take it clean it in the sink in and out and put it back in service, if you stick something to it obviously you can't do that.

Thanks a ton!
How would I add belly heat then or would I rely on the ambient temps of the room?

Belly heat on the hot side would be provided with a heat pad or heat tape and a t-stat, temps on the cool side would depend on the temps in your room.

Oh I had one last question. I have been reading the forum about the Zoomed UTHs but I couldn't find the right answer for this.
Do you remove the paper backing or not?
I have aluminum foil tape and I do plane on taping it to the bottom of the sterilite tub, but the instructions say to remove the paper backing or is that a ploy to get you to buy more of these things? I'll be using a thermostat of course with it as I know these seem to be notorious for overheating.

I always just left the backing on the UTH, and just tape it to the bottom....

Re: 16 Quart Tub Heating
Ambient temps sound fine. As long as the room you are in is above 76 and your also using a UTH on one side of the tub you will be just fine. Taping the UTH to the tub is unnecessary IMO especially if you want to use it on your next size tub. If anything tape it lightly to whatever surface your going to be keeping the tub on and just rest the tub ontop of it.
