Soaking in water?Please help

There are a few reason that can make a young animal soak

• Mites
• Insecurity (using their water dish as an hide)
• Temps too hot
• Meal too big
• Very few will do it prior to shedding

Your job is to narrow it down.

OK so have read the replies and am using the crappy,cheap Walmart aquarium temp gauges am going to replace them tomorrow.and also I am using a under the tank heater without a thermostat, which after reading your reply going to purchase one right now.have been using aspen bedding but think I'm gonna switch to papertowls to keep an eye out for mites.thanks to all that has gave me an ideal about what to look for.will keep an up date,and please keep the ideals coming if you have any.

Yeah make sure your temp gauges have a probe. The probe takes the direct temp of where it's place (like above the ugh) instead of the ambient temp in the air (like the aquarium thermometer would.)Better yet would be a temp gun if you have the money for it. They can be cheap when on sale.

I know some animals can soak to help pass feces. Is that something reptiles do?

I have Oliver on paper towels now since he has mites. I have found that they are best for us in terms of holding humidity. I'm positive the mites came from cypress mulch substrate, so be careful when you buy any new substrate. I believe 75% of it's contaminated with mites from the pet store and packing facility.

Yes, if they are constipated or have a large stool to pass.

OK sorry I haven't posted in a while guys.have got everything adjusted in his cage correctly with a thermostat for his under tank heater and also took the water out of his waterfall since he is wanting to use it for a cool end hide.Also I did put paper towels down to check for mites and no mites.Seems to be doing really good with the temps now,but was also wandering your all's thoughts on feeding live mice vs frozen thawed?
