    Breeding cycle timing questions

Ok so I’m playing a little “who’s your baby’s daddy?” and I was wondering if some paring timing could help me out.

After fertilization, how long do the females hold the eggs before laying? I’m basically counting backwards from when they were laid to see when the latest pairing COULD have been the one.

    Also 2 more related questions:
I know it is possible, but how common is it to have a dual sired clutch? Is it likely? Common?

How long can the female retain viable sperm? Can it be held over from the previous season? Has anyone actually had this happen?
(this particular situation was her first year, just wondering)

For anyone interested in the situation, I purchased a female Mojave. I figured it was kinda late, and did not think I'd get eggs this year, but threw in butter to see if I can get some BEL's. Did not see any action, did not think much of it, I just shipped her, and the butter was still young. Turns out, she lays eggs!! I asked the seller, and he had put her with 2 males earlier, but also did not see any locks. Somebody did the deed, just trying to figure out who

Time between Ovy and egg laying is an average of 45 days.

It's not a common things but it does happen.

A year or more and yes they can retain from a previous season, It has happen with one of my female a few years back, she did not take so I stopped pairing her and then the following season (about a year after I stopped all pairings) she ovulated.

Somebody did the deed, just trying to figure out who
The only way to know is when the eggs hatch.

Hit the search button, been answered multiple times. To save on carpal tunnel, you don't need the first two words in the first sentence, and the first word in the second.

    Deborah,
    Thanks for helpful answers

    grcforce327,
I was not aware I was on the grammar police board… sorry I’ll try not to let it happen again.

Most questions I had found answered were from shed to egg laying time, and a few of ovulation time, but I had not found anything from fertilization time. I’m under the impression that ovulation happens before fertilization, right? I was also wondering if there was a “window” of time, as the eggs don’t hang out there forever waiting to be fertilized. The last 2 questions were more of a general opinion of how common they occur.

    Re: Breeding cycle timing questions

Fertilization occurs during or just after ovulation, when the mature eggs are released.

You won't know who the daddy(ies) are until the eggs hatch. What did her prior owner pair her with?

    they did

more pics on what hatched out here:

I paired with butter, he paired with butter + maybe something else, and calico pastel. I'm not seeing any calico or pastel, and did get one BEL (not pictured, it is pretty obvious )
previous owner thinks that the 3rd one may also be showing what his "something else" might be, so right now thinking that his butter may be the daddy.

    2/7/2014 I purchased the mojave
2/16/2014 I paired with my butter
3/30/2014 I paired with my butter
    5/1/2014 found eggs

she laid about 30 days after my last pairing, so I don't think it could have been that one, but still could have been the first time (although I did not see any locks, and I normally do, I tend to check daily on ones I have paired but I could have missed it)

no idea of the timing of previous owners pairings.

I did not really even think I would get eggs this year, just figured I'd give it a shot.
