    Gravid?

Gravid females. Do they slowly get fat or does it just show one day? Does their body change after the shed or before? I just would like to know how to tell if she is gravid

    Re: Gravid?

I'm sure it's slow but you'll look at her one day and once you see it you'll know it! I don't feed my females during breeding so It's really easy to see her belly looking like she took down a large meal. You should also notice her hugging her water bowl and trying to stay on the cold side of the enclosure and her color will start to take on a glow like she just shed.

    Re: Gravid?

Just to give an example of a time line (keep in mind the dates just like with human females vary)
My first clutch this year, my female shed on 2/26. Around mid to the end of March she started to hug her water bowl and seek the cold side of her enclosure. Then about the middle of April I notice her getting fat from her mid section to her tail, and her color was brighter then normal(the best I've ever seen her). She shed again on 5/15(Post ovulation shed) and laid 8 eggs on 6/29!

SO.....about 20 days after ovulation post ovulation shed, and then about 30 days later EGGS!!!!!

The best thing you can do is watch and catalog her sheds!

hope this helps and good luck!

Thanks for the details! That's exactly what I wanted to hear from a breeder I have a female that's supposed to lay eggs every august but I haven't noticed any locks these past 4 months. She eats once a month because she is super picky but hasn't ate lately. Looks like she is getting ready to shed but she isn't "fat" as if she had eggs. She's a small snake in general even though she's 5 or 6 years old so I would think it would be easy to tell if she was gravid...yikes, hope she lays :/
