Wow that is sad and disgusting. I would definitely not give them a chance to "get their act together" since up until this point they seem uninterested in the snake and could care less and will most likely continue to do so until it's dead, which the snake doesn't deserve. I'm continuously amazed how stupid and heartless people are with animals, especially reptiles.
