Good Morph To Invest In

Who knows, maybe deserts will become as popular as pastels or spiders someday.

Problem with desert is, apparently females cannot produce good eggs. This makes females pet only snakes and that removes a lot of the hobby as potential buyers, then people looking for a pet generally aren't willing to spend the cash a hobbyist would. So basically you are making snakes that many do not want and when they do, you sell it cheap. Amazing looking snakes, horrible investment.

I'm looking for a dominant or co-dom morph that is a good investment for future breeding. Any suggestions? I was thinking champagne or lace black back.

Personally I don't think champagnes are all that great an investment. They were hot for a while but the prices have dropped pretty significantly over the last year. Also, the super form (pearl) and crosses with other morphs, like spider, are lethal, so they're limited in what you can breed to them.

Agreed. THAT is why the hobby needs more people like ME!!!!

I own a Desert Mojave boy, and a Desert Enchi (Tiger) girl. Both are AWESOME animals...and drop-dead gorgeous...but both are just PETS. I will never breed either, and I knew that when I bought them. Neither were cheap (comparatively speaking), but I bought them for the love of the animals, not the money they would earn me.

I look forward to growing old with both of them...but they're definitely not investment-grade snakes.

I own a Desert Mojave boy, and a Desert Enchi (Tiger) girl. Both are AWESOME animals...and drop-dead gorgeous...but both are just PETS. I will never breed either, and I knew that when I bought them. Neither were cheap (comparatively speaking), but I bought them for the love of the animals, not the money they would earn me.

I look forward to growing old with both of them...but they're definitely not investment-grade snakes.

We definitely need more people like you. Most of the Ball Python trade is breeder to breeder. It would be great if Ball Pythons could drop in price a little, and people could afford a morph like Piebald or Clown.

IMO, you need a ton of good females to pair up in the future with 1 powerhouse male. The Bamboo project is VERY promising, and would be worth it. If you really want to find "investment" quality BPs, you want to get into the Bamboo, Scaleless, or Highways/Freeways. The GHI train is coming down pretty hard.

Bananas are a decent investment in my opinion. I think they're as big as pieds. The combos sell well (and look amazing), they are one of the most appealing BPs on the market, and they're attainable by many more people who can afford a >$1000 snake than a $10k snake . The only drawback is the sex-linked issue where males will almost always produce other males. Typically, when you buy a male investment quality snake, you're trying to breed him to produce his replacement... So it kindof works out lol.

Edit: I know this was mentioned, but reptiles aren't a very good investment for a hobby breeder. They do what they want, when they want to, and with who they want to...... It's not clockwork lol.

If you buy animals that you genuinely enjoy, you forget about how much money you spent, and you enjoy raising that animal. Also, I think I talked myself into buying a banana............ Ugh! That itch!

Bamboo! how could I of forgot, on a whole different price tier but I think that will be huge in years to come.

I just wanted to elaborate, there are male makers and female makers with the male bananas, so you can pick which one fancies you at the time.
