    Question first time owner!!!!!.....

I got my snake from a pet store and treated him for mites just to be safe.... But I was wandering if there is anything I can do to prevent him from getting mites from the rats that we feed him.... I know that they don't live on the rats but I also know that they can be carried by them and I don't want him to get them again.....

If you know anything to do with the rats to make sure there are no mites then please tell me but I do not want to feed him frozen.... He is eating live completely fine right now and I don't want to change that so anything besides buying frozen please..... And Thankyou!.....

    Honestly?

Buy your rats from somewhere that doesn't have mites on their reptiles. Or, if you can find one, a shop that doesn't have reptiles.

Personally all mine eat frozen which helps but you need to be very careful using poisons ( which is essentially what mite treatments are ) near pets and I would never suggest using it on a food item you were going to use anytime soon.

To avoid mites, I only feed frozen. Plus it's safer for the reptile. Not saying you are endangering your animal, just in general F/T is more appropriate for the long run.
I agree with the post above as well. Buy them from a reputable breeder or one you know doesn't have a mite infestation within their animal population. The "treatment" for mites can be very harmful if done wrong or for that matter overdone. Better safe than sorry, I would find a better rat provider if you are that concerned.
