Insurance for my BP's
So I'm trying to figure out what insurance would be best for my 4 BP's.
With one of my larger ones Sylvia having as many health issues as she does its becoming quite expensive.
Any ideas?

The best thing is to save money each month on your own for emergency, the cost of insurance for 4 BP knowing that they will live 30+ years will be exorbitant compare to the cost of vet visits that do not occur very often with those animals anyway.
If you have an animal with persistent health issues it can be different things A/ your husbandry B/ An animal with a weak immune system C/ The wrong vet
There was a thread about the same subject. http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...ight=insurance
With a quote like this you would look at $808.80 a year for all 4 that's $8088 in ten years that you will never see again.

Re: Insurance for my BP's
I actually looked into this before. The only company who does this is VPI Pet Insurance. It's not a bad deal if you only have a couple. But as Deborah said, it makes better sense just to save the money.

What are the many health issues with you snake? With most reptiles they stay healthy unless there is something wrong with their husbandry. And if something is wrong, if taken care of properly, it doesn't usually return. Again unless there is poor husbandry.

We are trying to make sure the appropriate conditions are met.
She has had numerous medical issues since we picked her up a couple of months ago from her previous owner.
URI, mouth rot, belly burn, retained eye caps, possible eye infection, possibly blind in left eye, possible scale rot, blister disease, problems with motor skills, afraid of live and f/t when trying to feed

that sounds like quite some hurdles to jump I hope everything turns out OK. hopefully it's not medicine in one hand and a shovel in the next, waiting to see which one to use next.

Ah... I've never insured a pet before! I don't have even have coverage for myself.
Is it a common thing to insure your pets in the States?

You can buy pet insurance in Canada as well Most times it used on show dogs and horses

I would consider it if I had a dog, or any other pet, that was prone to health issues. BP's don't fall into this category though...

The thing with pet insurance is it's not like human insurance, where they cover x and y and you pay for z; with pet insurance you pay out of pocket for treatment then the agency reimburses you. A common complaint I hear about pet insurance is often times they will be very very picky about what treatments they will reimburse you for. I've known people to get pet insurance then have majority of their claims get denied. This is for "common" pets like dogs or cats, so I can only imagine how ridiculous it might be to try and get reimbursement for reptiles.
