Finding a Stand for 40 Gallon Tank and UTH
Hello everyone!
I'm sorry if this has been answered before but I couldn't find any answers to this question. I'm about to go get my first ball python in two weeks, and I have everything ready for him, except for a stand for the tank as well as an Undertank heater. I have bought a Zilla critter cage 40 gallon breeder tank, and I was hoping that I could find a stand for the tank that is open on the bottom so I can place the under tank heater safely on the tank. Are there any stands that you all recommend or is there something I can do to raise the tank? In addition, is there an undertank heater that anyone recommends? I have been looking at Zoomed Reptitherm Under Tank Heaters and I plan on buying a herpstat basic.
Thanks again for the help!

Just bumping the thread,
This is the UTH I was looking at

I am definitely willing to get something better if this isn't as good. I did another search again for something to have the tank stand up on so that airflow gets to the UTH but to no avail.
Thanks again everyone!

Re: Finding a Stand for 40 Gallon Tank and UTH
Many of the tanks will come with small rubber pads that adhere to the bottom of the tank to lift it off the surface and allow air to circulate. If that is not the case, then you could probably still glue some small wood pads or something similar and raise it as you like. Then you don't need a stand as you can put it on a flat surface, table top, counter, dresser, etc. You may also want to put heavy duty foil over the adhesive face of the UTH instead of sticking it directly to the glass. Then you use heat tape on the corners to adhere it to the glass. Should you ever want to remove it in the future to use on a different tank, it will be as easy as removing the tape on the four corners. If you stick it directly to the glass, it is there for good and usually cant be removed without damaging it to the point of unusable. Make sure to use a thermostat to regulate the UTH, as unregulated they will easily heat up to temps that will burn your snake. Vet bills or replacing dead animals is way more expensive then a decent thermostat. Good luck.

Thanks again! I really appreciate that. A table sounds way more affordable than an entire stand as well as the foil so I don't destroy the tank. I'll definitely do that. I'm guessing a herpstat is the best thermostat I can get? And does the brand of UTH not matter?
Once again thanks for answering some n00b questions!

You won't destroy the tank but trying to remove the adhered UTH from the glass, usually ruins the UTH. The Zoo Med UTH you showed will be fine. Herpstat is a great product. I have two Herpstat II and love them. Spyder Robotics has a 10% off sale right now through the 20th on all Herpstats so if your going to get one, I would suggest you order now as you'll save a little. Again, best of luck

Thanks a ton I'll definitely go ahead and get a herpstat then. You can never beat a sale. Once again, thanks a lot for your time!

I had trouble finding something to set my cage on as well and ended up finding this table at Staples for a good price. I plan on using a 40 gallon tank when my snake gets bigger and it should fit perfectly. The dimensions are 36"W & 20"D, which basically fits a 40 gallon exactly(36"W & 18"D).

But really you can use whatever you want if it is the right dimensions.
Also to note, the Zoo Med pad that you showed above does come with round rubber pieces that you put on the tanks corners, which raises it up a little bit to allow for heat to escape and room for the cord.

Thank you so much for showing me this! I really appreciate it and that looks like it'd work perfectly! Thanks for the advice too!

You can use that mat but you could also use THG tape and Reptile Basics will wire it up for you too. Get everything in one order. Plus the service is second to none.

Funny you just said that that's exactly what I ordered. I was dissuaded on the zoo med UTH after seeing it in person. So far, Reptile Basics has been phenomenal!
